But what a memorable moment it is for parents when their children discover the joy of "giving". In spite of all the presents waiting for Nathan his only concern was that we opened his gift to us first.
I found out later from the shop keeper that he had returned twice on his way home from school before making up his mind on a purchase. I know that keeping it a secret until Christmas however, was the most difficult part of all!
Little did he know that the tears that came to my eyes weren't just for the wonderful gift. His unselfish and sincere heart was more than any Daddy or Mommy could ever hope for.
Surrounded by colourful presents the manger finds its place traditionally under the boughs of our tree. Its brilliant light casts a reminder of the great gift of love brought to the world. "Oh Come Let Us Adore Him!"
