How blessed we were this year with a glorious Easter Sunday. Unlike other years when we still needed winter clothes for warmth, this Easter was very much like the ones I remember as a child…when we could dress in white gloves, shiny new shoes, a newly made dress, and of course, the finishing touch…a straw Easter bonnet!
There is a time in motherhood when we are "allowed" to choose the outfits that our little ones wear. Getting ready for church often means dressing them to perfection, while mother must make a very quick attempt at her own appearance. Now, the tides have turned! With age comes independence and the need for expression through style. While mother has more time to put herself together on Sunday mornings....our growing children manage to make a "fashion statement" in very short order.
Everytime I think of this wonderful home that we visited in Vermont. I can’t help but remember the owners keen sense of pride and pleasure for the things of the past. The homestead had been passed down from generation to generation. It had a verandah for every occasion and takes to go with them from Sunday afternoon teas to ice cream making!
This grand estate still stands today as a summer home in Niagara. In passing one cannot help but imagine an era when Sunday afternoons were devoted to pleasant visits over tea and scones... truly a time when time stood still.
